Plumassier

The plumassier turns the feathers of edible birds (ostrich, pheasant, rooster, turkey, goose, etc.) into accessories and costume elements. Working for Haute Couture houses, luxury ready-to-wear brands, and the entertainment industry, a plumassier works this fragile material into marquetry, woven fabrics, furs, braids, and more, creating all sorts of trompe-l’oeil effects in the process. Today, France has only four ateliers dedicated to the art of featherwork, including in particular Lemarié (a haute couture specialist) and Légeron, owned by Lemarié since 2019.
