Fitter

Also known as the ouvrier du pied (a role specific to shoemaking), the fitter shapes the shoe’s upper on a last after inserting stiffeners that they have specially crafted. The fitter then carries out all the necessary stitchwork, makes the sole, and applies the finishing touches – which require a set of irons, used while hot.
