la Galerie du 19M is joining forces with its neighbours in Seine-Saint-Denis to stage the 42nd iconic Banlieues Bleues jazz festival. It is hosting the original creation “KRISIS” by Claire Lamothe, Célia Kameni, and Charles Amblard for a special moment of collective creation.

The idea originated with G.R.O.O.V.E, a walking spectacle choreographed by Bintou Dembélé, in which Célia Kameni and Charles Amblard played the central role, a total interaction between dance, voice, and electric guitar. The power of the experience encouraged them to continue this creative research with dancer and choreographer Claire Lamothe, to design a sensory performance that would break away from regular forms.

“KRISIS”, which means “judgement” or “crucial moment” in ancient Greek, examines the breakdown of an initial order and the mechanisms that precede a crisis: the signs that are ignored, the tension between denial and action in the face of an alarming reality, whether it be a societal issue—such as the climate crisis—or a more personal one. Between urgency and hope, the trio aims to take the audience into a world of beauty and fragility, while questioning our collective behaviour and individual resilience.

Banlieues Bleues

non-profit organisation

Banlieues Bleues is a non-profit organisation set up in 1984 on the initiative of around ten towns in the Seine-Saint-Denis département, and which organises the eponymous festival. Today, Banlieues Bleues relies on three main areas of its activity, grounded in its history and the interactive components of an overall project carried out by the same team: its intercommunal jazz festival; its Dynamo, a venue for production and distribution; and its Actions musicales, a wide-ranging programme of cultural action and artistic education.
